Learning Outcomes
Competences
The courses VO (lecture) and UE (exercise) Electrical Machines and Drive Electronics form an inseparable didactic unit. The learning outcomes described below are achieved through the interaction of the two courses.

  • Students are able to understand and calculate the basic electromagnetic foundations of electrical machines.
  • Students will be able to interpret the function and design of the main electrical machines.
Skills Knowledge
  • Understand and apply the basic principles of electromagnetic energy conversion (k3)
  • Calculate and analyse electrical machines and magnetic circuits (k3, k4)
  • Understand the functional principles of electric drives (k3)
  • Analyse and evaluate the operating behaviour of various electrical machines (k4)
  • Quantitatively and qualitatively assess specific machine types (k4)
The exercises of Electrical Machines and Drive Electronics are held in parallel with the lecture of the same name. The calculation examples are based on the lecture content and are worked on chronologically. Work topics are:

  • General principles of electromagnetism
  • Direct current machines
  • Fundamentals of rotating field machines
  • Induction machines
  • Synchronous machines
