Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students know and understand advanced concepts in wireless communications (e.g., RF impairments, channel coding, OFDM, WLAN). They are able to apply this knowledge to implement parts of a standard compliant WLAN transceiver using software-defined-radio (SDR) and a microcontroller board (eLITe-Board) with an WLAN chip.
Skills Knowledge
Students are able to

  • analyze the WLAN standard (k4)
  • implement the transmission of a raw WLAN Beacon frame with the eLITe-Board (k2,k3)
  • implement the transmission of a raw WLAN Beacon frame with the SDR (k2,k3)
  • implement, analyze and evaluate the Schmidl&Cox synchronization algorithm using GNU Radio Companion (k3-k5)
  • IQ modulation
  • RF impairments
  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)
  • Channel equalization and estimation in OFDM
  • Channel coding
