Learning Outcomes
Competences
Based on a fundamental understanding of semiconductor components, students are able to analyze and design basic circuits such as small signal amplifiers and oscillators.
Skills Knowledge
  • Calculation of circuits with semiconductor components (k5)
  • Design of circuits with semiconductor components (k6)
  • Synthesis of circuits for basic electronic tasks (k6)
Knowledge about

  • physical foundations of semiconductors (semiconductor physics)
  • diodes and bipolar transistors
  • fundamental circuits (constant current source, current mirror, constant voltage source, etc.)
  • differential amplifiers and operational amplifiers
  • noise in transistors
  • large signal behavior
  • oscillators
  • cascaded amplifiers
  • bipolar logic circuits
  • field effect transisstors (function and characteristics, fundamental circuits, logic circuits)
  • the level is that of the recommended references and therefore is beyond that of knowledge taught at engineering high schools (HTL)
Criteria for evaluation Written exam including theory and design problems, subesequently oral exam (if written exam above entry level), final grade based on both exams.
