Learning Outcomes
Competences
  • Fluid power motion control systems are understood and can be compared to other technologies with respect to advantages in drawbacks in specific appliations.
  • Students are able to analyse and dimension simple hydraulic and pneumatic circuits.
Skills Knowledge
  • Ability to read fluid power circuit schematics (k1-k4)
  • Ability to size standard circutis for simple drive tasks (k1-k6)
  • Ability towards a comparative assessment of fluid power solutions in the context of electrical alternatives (k1-k5)
  • Comparison of fluid power solutions with other drive and power transmission technologies
  • Basics of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics: pressure-flow relations, flow forces, hydraulic capacities and inductances
  • Conventions for fluid power circuit schematics according to ISO 1219
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic components: Setup and working principles of pumps, compressors, motors, cylinders, valves, hydraulic accumulators, coolers, filters and hydraulic fluids
  • Sealing technology: static and dynamic sealing problems in fluid power system, design of piston and rod sealings
Criteria for evaluation
  • Assessment of home work assignments, possible debriefing.
