Learning Outcomes
Competences
  • Students are able to read and manually draw standard-compliant technical drawings of components (machine elements), assemblies and machines in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • They are able to develop solutions for simple design tasks and depict them in accordance with standards using hand drawings. In doing so, they take into account important requirements and are able to meaningfully define all component properties and development processes that are necessary to fulfill the requirements.
  • Students are able to apply basic rules of design and explain the scientific foundations, models and criteria on which the knowledge underlying these rules is based and what order, structures and regularities it therefore contains.
  • Students are able to explain the role and significance of mechanical engineering for the development of technical systems (products) as well as its historical development in the context of the various stages of the industrial revolution up to the present day.
Skills Knowledge
Specifically, they can

  • create technical drawings of complex components and assemblies in accordance with standards (k3, k4).
  • understand and correctly apply the system of standards and other regulations in mechanical engineering (k2, k3).
  • correctly apply the ISO-system, form and position tolerances and standards for the characterization of technical surfaces (k3, k4).
  • correctly select the manufacturing processes essential for mechanical engineering and the associated surface qualities and manufacturing accuracies for specified functionalities of components, also taking economic aspects into account (k3, k4).
  • carry out the strength calculations necessary for the design of components and assemblies (k3, k4).
  • perform the calculations of expansion bolts (k3, k4).
  • Fundamentals of technical drawings, design processes
  • Standards and regulations
  • Manufacturing processes
  • Manufacturing accuracy and design (ISO-system, surface quality, shape and position tolerances)
  • Basic mechanical processes (power conversion, general processes)
  • Function and representation of some important machine elements
  • Strength of rod-like bodies and screws
