Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students are able to understand the fundamentals of electronic measurement signal processing and apply and evaluate them to measurement tasks using resistive, capacitive, inductive and optoelectronic sensors. They are also able to analyse measurement circuits with operational amplifiers, taking into account non-ideal characteristics, to design suitable measurement circuits and to evaluate noise and external influences in measurement circuits.
Skills Knowledge
Students are able to

  • analyse measurement circuits using operational amplifiers, taking into account non-ideal characteristics (e.g. offset voltage, input quiescent current, bandwidth) (k4),
  • design and dimension appropriate measurement circuits for different sensor types (k5, k6),
  • analyse and quantify the effects of noise on measurement circuits (k4, k5),
  • select and dimension active and passive filters for signal processing and noise suppression (k3, k5),
  • apply the principles of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) to minimise interference in measurement circuits (k3, k5),
  • analyse operational amplifier circuits and determine their transfer characteristics (k3, k4)
  • select and use special amplifier circuits (e.g. instrumentation amplifiers, differential amplifiers) for specific measurement tasks (k3, k5).
  • Function and characteristics of operational amplifiers,
  • Non-ideal characteristics of operational amplifiers and their effect on measurement circuits,
  • Knowledge of various noise sources and their spectral characteristics,
  • Function and use of active and passive filters,
  • Fundamentals of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and its importance for measurement circuits,
  • Noise in measuring circuits (thermal and 1/f noise),
  • Operation and application of special amplifier circuits.
