Learning Outcomes
Competences
Upon successful completion of the seminar, students are able to critically discuss methods and results of their MSc or PhD thesis in the area of theoretical physics. They are able to present their own research in a structured manner, provide constructive feedback and effectively integrate feedback to refine their own research.
Skills Knowledge
Upon completing the course, students will possess the following skills. They are able to

  • present and communicate the methods, results and challenges of their own research project to a scientific audience (k5);
  • engage in scientific discussions, asking questions and addressing feedback to improve their research approaches (k5/k6);
  • critically evaluate and provide constructive feedback on the methods and findings presented by others (k5/k6);
  • identify strengths and limitations of theoretical models across different research projects (k4/k5);
  • reflect on their own research in the context of broader scientific methodologies, improving their ability to advance the theoretical descriptions and explain experimental data (k6).
During the course, students will acquire knowledge about current research topics in the area of theoretical physics. The topics are determined by the MSc or PhD thesis projects of the participants in one of the Divisions of Theoretical Physics (Many Body Theory, Classical and Quantum Dynamics, Theoretical Biophysics).
Criteria for evaluation Evaluation will include the content and presentation of the scientific results as well as active engagement in the discussions.
Methods Presentations will be followed by extensive group and one-to-one discussions with the supervisors of the MSc or PhD projects to promote active participation as well as a deeper understanding of the topics.
