Competences
Upon successful completion of the seminar, students are able to critically discuss methods and results of their MSc or PhD thesis in the area of solid state physics. They are able to present their own research in a structured manner, provide constructive feedback and effectively integrate feedback to refine their own research.
Skills Knowledge
Upon completing the course, students will possess the following skills. They are able to

  • present and communicate the methods, preliminary results and challenges of their own research project to a scientific audience (k5);
  • engage in scientific discussions, asking questions and addressing feedback to improve their research approaches (k5/k6);
  • critically evaluate and provide constructive feedback on the methods and findings presented by others (k5/k6);
  • identify strengths and limitations in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation of results across different research projects (k4/k5);
  • reflect on their own research in the context of broader scientific methodologies, improving their ability to plan experiments and solve problems (k6).
During the course, students will acquire knowledge about current research topics in the area solid state physics. The topics are determined by the methods and results of the own MSc or PhD thesis projects of the participants.
Criteria for evaluation Evaluation will include the content and presentation of the talk as well as active engagement in the discussions.
Methods Seminar talks will be followed by extensive discussions to encourage active participation as well as a deeper understanding of the topics.
