Kompetenzen
(*)Upon successful completion of the laboratory course, students will be able to design and conduct experiments independently, apply advanced techniques in soft matter research, and critically analyze and interpret their findings. They will be skilled in problem-solving, integrating scientific literature into their work, and refining their work through feedback.

This course will equip students with the necessary competencies for carrying out their MSc thesis project in the Division of Biomolecular and Selforganizing Matter.

Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)Upon completing the course, students will possess the following skills. They are able to

  • independently design and plan a comprehensive sequence of experiments for the characterization of soft matter systems (k4);
  • prepare and handle soft matter samples of biological and/or synthetic origin (k3);
  • execute complex experimental procedures using state-of-the-art instrumentation relevant to ongoing research in the Division of Biomolecular and Selforganizing Matter (k3/k4);
  • identify problems that arise during work, analyze them and develop solutions independently (k5/k6);
  • analyze experimental data rigorously, draw meaningful conclusions and present findings clearly in a well-structured report (k4/k5);
  • critically evaluate experimental results in the context of existing scientific literature (k5);
  • reflect critically on feedback and incorporate it into their work (k5).
(*)During the course, students will acquire practical knowledge in the experimental characterization of soft matter systems, including those of biological and synthetic origin. The topics will be discussed with the supervisor before the start of the practical course.
Beurteilungskriterien (*)A combined grade will be determined, based on the execution of the lab work, the critical analysis and discussion of results and the written report.
Lehrmethoden (*)Students are performing advanced experiments in a research laboratory.
