Kompetenzen |
(*)Upon successful completion of the course, students are able apply advanced techniques for the acquisition of analog and digital signals. They can explain the functionality and application of sensors, data acquisition systems, microcontrollers, smartphones and personal computers in measuring applications. The students are able to create LabView virtual instruments (VIs) for sensor data acquisition and analysis.
This lab course is methodologically complemented by the lecture Advanced Measuring Techniques.

Fertigkeiten |
Kenntnisse |
(*)Upon completing the course, students will possess the following skills. They are able to
- program LabView VIs for sensor data acquisition from different sources, such as My-DAQ (or other DAQ-MCs), notebook soundcard and smartphone (k2-k4);
- treat the data with advanced filtering techniques for better data quality (e.g., improved signal-to-noise ratio) (k2-k4);
- analyze the sensor data to deduce relevant physical quantities (k3-k5);
- create a user interface for controlling data acquisition and for showing the measured and deduced data (k3-k6).
|
(*)During the course, students will acquire practical knowledge in the implementation of advanced measuring techniques:
- the programing language LabView (National Instruments);
- controlling data acquisition (DAQ) devices (e.g., My-DAQ);
- accessing Smartphone Sensor Data (SSD) wirelessly via User Datagram Protocol (UDP);
- application of filters for reducing noise, e.g., smoothening filters, lock-in filters, frequency analysis with Fourier-filters.

Beurteilungskriterien |
(*)The grade is based on (1) solving exercises by programing LabView VIs for particular small tasks (individually, 50%) and (2) systematically programing a more complex data acquisition VI in groups of two students (50%). The latter includes the steps “feasibility”, “concept”, “implementation” and “presentation”.
|
Lehrmethoden |
(*)Initially, the students learn the very basics of the programing language LabView to be able to create simple VIs. Using examples, the students practice the application of LabView for the acquisition of sensor data as well as the application of filters.In the following, the students are guided through the creation of a more complex and individually chosen data acquisition and analysis VI. Towards the final VI, they perform the steps “feasibility”, “concept” and “implementation”. The students present the final VI at the end of the course.
