Learning Outcomes
Competences
Upon successful completion of the experiment, students are able to describe and apply characteristic data analysis methods and programs used in theoretical physics. They are able to design and carry out data acquisition, analyze results and critically evaluate findings within the context of the current scientific literature.
Skills Knowledge
Upon completing the course, students will possess the following skills. They are able to

  • plan a sequence of data acquisition aimed at the characterization of complex physical systems (k2/k3);
  • perform a sequence of experiments with state-of-the-art software, used in current research projects at the Institute for Theoretical Physics (k3);
  • analyze and summarize the obtained results in a report (k4/k5);
  • critically discuss the results, also in the context of the scientific literature (k5).
Students will acquire practical knowledge in the characterization of complex physical systems and the usage of advanced data processing and simulation tools.
Criteria for evaluation A combined grade will be determined, based on the preparation and execution of the experiment, the written protocol and the discussion of the results.
Methods Students will conduct experiments in groups of two.
