(*)Upon successful completion of the course, students are able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of bottom-up fabrication for 0-, 1-, and 3-dimensional nanostructures. They can evaluate the advantages and limitations of conventional and advanced techniques, discuss application cases and engage with current research topics. They are able to analyze challenges related to scaling and dimensionality and critically discuss recent advancements in self-assembly and bottom-up approaches.

This lecture is methodologically complemented by the practical course Self-Assembly of Nanostructures.

Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)Upon completing the course, students will possess the following skills. They are able to

  • explain and summarize key concepts related to scaling and dimensionality (k1/k2);
  • explain and summarize key concepts of self-assembly and nanofabrication (k1/k2);
  • describe and compare the characteristics of various techniques and their underlying principles (k2);
  • engage with current and cutting-edge relevant research topics and discuss the latest developments (k5).
(*)During the course, students will acquire knowledge in the following areas and concepts of the self-assembly of nanostructures:

  • basics of low-dimensional structures;
  • basics of scaling and dimensionality in nanostructured materials;
  • self-assembly processes and their role in nanostructure fabrication;
  • conventional and advanced bottom-up techniques for nanostructure fabrication;
  • cutting-edge research topics involving self-assembly, nanostructures, emergent phenomena.
Beurteilungskriterien (*)Evaluation criteria will be announced at the beginning of the semester.
Lehrmethoden (*)The class primarily consists of lectures on fundamental and current topics in low-dimensional nanostructures, scaling and emergent phenomena.
