(*)Upon successful completion of the course, students are able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles and established concepts of modern optics and photonics, covering the areas listed below. They are able to solve problems in the area of photonics.
This exercise is methodologically complemented by the lecture Photonics.

(*)Upon completing the course, students will possess the following skills. They are able to
apply their mathematical and physical knowledge for deriving key equations and quantities in photonics (k3);
apply fundamental photonic concepts and equations for the analysis of problems in photonics (k3/k4);
transfer concepts and solution approaches to new problems by choosing suitable mathematical models and physical concepts (k3/k4);
explain photonic concepts to the group (k4/k5);
explain a path for solving a problem to the group and discuss it (k5/k6).
(*)During the course, students will acquire knowledge in how to solve problems in
Fresnel diffraction;
Fourier optics;
photonic crystals;
lasers;
fiber optics;
detectors;
nonlinear optics and optical switches.
Beurteilungskriterien
(*)Evaluation will be based on the number of successfully solved exercises, quality of the presentation and active participation in the exercise class.
Lehrmethoden
(*)Students are expected to solve exercise questions as part of their self-study. The solutions are then presented and discussed in class.
