Detailed information
Pre-requisites For safety reasons, at least 25 ECTS verifiably in chemical laboratory courses with individual experimental work or admission to the Master's program in "Chemistry and Chemical Technology" or "Management in Chemical Technologies".
Original study plan Master's programme Chemistry and Chemical Technology (CCT) 2025W
Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students will gain an hand on experimental experience in a scientific ongoing project of the Institute for Physical Chemistry. The safety, security practice as well as the operation of complicated experimental research engines are the main goals. Different spectroscopic methods are learned in hand-on detailed way and the results of those spectroscopic results are analyzed and understood. This is not a repetitive lab course, where everybody repeats the same experiment over and over again, but rather a real research lab course where genuine results are expected outcomes, which are in many cases even published in international journals.
Skills Knowledge
The following skills should be held by the students upon completing this course: • Learn a method/machine or spectroscopic technique in hands-on experimental skill. (k5) • Understand the the results of these experiments in a up-to-date scientific level as compared to the literature. (k4, k5) • Understand the spectroscopical results with the underlying physical/chemical principles and apply this understanding to real experiments. (k5) • Team working in a highly interdisciplinary lab environment. • Laboratory work on an ongoing research field at high level of experimental methods • Spectroscopic techniques and interpretations thereof
Criteria for evaluation At the end of the lab course the candidate is expected to deliver a full lecture in the group seminar as well as a written protocol with all the results.
