Kompetenzen
(*)The lecture conveys guiding principles that allow the students to draw analogies between natural metalloenzymes and simple metal complexes based on non-noble metals. This ability eventually allows for the rational design of base metal catalysts that mimic the reactivity of several important cofactors that occur in nature. These model compounds have the potential to outperform existing catalysts that are mostly based on scarce and expensive precious metals.
Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)The contents of the course will enable students to gain insight into • synthesis and characterization of privileged ligand platforms and bio-inspired base metal complexes (k1, k2, k3) • applications of rational guidelines for the cleavage of strong bonds in common small molecules to convert them into value-added chemicals (k3, k4, k5, k6) • learn how to store gaseous hydrogen and carbon dioxide in a chemical bond to establish a prospective hydrogen or methanol economy (k3, k4, k5) (*)• Catalytic cleavage of the following molecules is discussed in detail: - Hydrogen - Nitrogen - Carbon monoxide - Methane and related alkanes; - Carbon monoxide - Oxygen - Carbon dioxide

• Oxygen transport and storage with biological iron- and copper-based enzymes

Beurteilungskriterien (*)Written examination at the end of the semester
