(*)This lecture is designed as a course about technical biopolymers, also called engineering biopolymers. It gives an insight in the definition of technical biopolymers, the history of their development and their future impact on sustainability of polymers and plastics. Students learn to classify technical biopolymers, how they are produced and what structures, properties and characteristics of such polymers are expectable. Furthermore, they will gain information about the market situation and legal aspects of technical biopolymers.

• Legal aspects of technical biopolymers: standards, (bio)degradability, compostability, waste treatment.
• Sustainability and technical biopolymers: end-of-life options, eco-balancing.
• Biopolymer market & applications of technical biopolymers.
