Detailed information
Pre-requisites For safety reasons, at least 25 ECTS verifiably in chemical laboratory courses with individual experimental work or admission to the Master's program in "Chemistry and Chemical Technology" or "Management in Chemical Technologies".
Original study plan Master's programme Chemistry and Chemical Technology (CCT) 2025W
Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students will develop advanced practical skills in the inorganic technology field, with focus on electrochemistry.
Skills Knowledge
Upon completion of the course they will be able to • build a reference electrode. (k2, k3, k6) • understand and characterize a light emitting diode. (k1, k2, k3) • controllably grow an anodic oxide layer on a valve metal. (k2, k3, k5) • understand the basics of corrosion and perform corrosion characterization of metallic alloys. (k1, k2, k3, k5) • electrochemically refine Cu. (k2, k3, k4, k5) The course is divided into five consecutive sections addressing the following investigative parts: • Ag/AgCl reference electrode – electrodeposition from solution and stability mesaurements • p-n junction basics – band gap measurement of various LEDs • high field regime of oxide growth – evaluation of oxide field formation factor and dielectric constant of the anodic oxide • corrosion and passivity – analysis of corrosion potentials • Faraday’s law of mass-to-charge conversion – evaluation of current efficiencies
