Learning Outcomes
Competences
The lecture offers the students in its first half an overview of fundamental concepts in the field of organic electronics. In its second half it introduces the major applications of the field of organic electronics, i.e. organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic photovoltaics (OPVs) and organic field effect transistors (OFETs). Students will be able to learn the relevant terminology and device concepts, including the support theory of the field, and correlate these pieces of information to understand the actual development status of the field.
Skills Knowledge
This course will help students with limited or no preceding background in the field to: • Understand the general background and the basic theoretical concepts that underlies the field of organic electronics. (k2) • Understand the level of advancement of the filed, its target applications, challenges and limitations etc. (k2) • Know relevant fundamental scientific theory, and its relationship to organic semiconductors and relevant device design concepts. (k1) • Recognize relevant terminology, and be able to read and understand scientific literature in the field. (k4) • Assess the level of sustainability development for particular electronic devices. (k5) Various relevant concepts in materials science and organic electronics are introduced: Fundamental Aspects • Introduction to Organic Electronics • Organic Materials as part of Materials Family • Organic Semiconductors • Charge Transport and Injection • Optical Properties

Organic Electronics Applications • Thin film processing and patterning methods • Organic Light-Emitting Devices • Organic Solar Cells • Organic Field-Effect Transistors • Future Prospects
