Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students will understand and be able to apply, and explain how to use NMR spectrometers (practical and applied theory) and how to process and analyse NMR data.
Skills Knowledge
More specifically, on completion of the course they will be able to • follow NMR laboratory safety procedures. (k1, k2, k3) • know, identify and operate the components of an NMR spectrometer. (k1, k2, k3) • prepare NMR samples. (k1, k2, k3) • know and apply the setup of routine NMR spectroscopic experiments. (k1, k2, k3) • know and apply basic data processing. (k1, k2, k3, k4) • identify, recognise and evaluate common errors. (k1, k2, k3, k4) • know and apply the setup of multi-pulse and multi-dimensional experimental design. (k1, k2, k3) • optimise acquisition and processing parameters. (k1, k2, k3, k4) • know and apply advanced processing techniques. (k1, k2, k3) Basic concepts and details of: • Health and safety regulations for the operation of an NMR spectrometer • Components of an NMR spectrometer • State of the art experiments • Operation of an NMR spectrometer • Processing of NMR data • Analysis of NMR data
Criteria for evaluation Practical performance, compliance with safety rules
Methods The course is highly interactive and includes demonstrations as well as guided operation of NMR spectrometers
