Pre-requisites 491CTOMAOTV25 Introduction to Lab Course in Advanced Organic Technology

For safety reasons, at least 25 ECTS verifiably in chemical laboratory courses with individual experimental work or admission to the Master's program in "Chemistry and Chemical Technology", "Management in Chemical Technologies" or "Polymer Chemistry".

Original study plan Master's programme Chemistry and Chemical Technology (CCT) 2025W
Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students will be able to learn, understand and review basic working methods of industrial chemistry, such as high temperature and high-pressure processes. They will master, analyze and evaluate a specific project on a topic of industrial chemistry relevant to the institute.
Skills Knowledge
More specifically, upon completion of the course, they will be able to: • Carry out, analyze and critically review synthesis and characterization protocols in high temperature and/or high-pressure processes. (k3, k4, k5, k6) • Synthesize, purify and isolate the targeted compound using established methods. (k3, k4, k5, k6) • Characterize and analyze afforded products by state-of-the-art analytical techniques. (k3, k4, k5, k6) • Report their results in a protocol in a scientific writing style. (k4, k5) • Present their results in a short talk in a conference like setting (k4, k5) The course is divided into two sections devoted to the following experimental manipulations and industrially-relevant products: • Preparation, separation, purification, characterization of industrially important products by high temperature, high-pressure chemistry. • Setting up a small research project (k2, k3), evaluate and generate experiments and characterization pathways (k5, k6) • Carrying out the experiments autonomously (k4, k5) • Preparing a report and presenting the results in a conference like setting (k6)
Criteria for evaluation Oral examination, final report and presentation of project results
