(*)Students will be able to analyze the data generated by modern mass spectrometry instruments using various ion sources as well as IR spectroscopy data.

(*)More specifically, upon completion of the course they will be able to • Understand, explain and apply the hyphenation chromatography and electrophoresis with MS (k2, k3, k4) • Understand, explain, examine and evaluate mass spectrometry signals (k2, k4, k5) • Understand, explain, examine and evaluate EI MS fragmentation patterns (k2, k4, k5) • Understand, explain, examine and evaluate IR spectra (k2, k4, k5) (*)Underlying concepts and details of • Hyphenations of chromatography with MS: GC-MS, LC-MS, CE-MS • Interpretation of mass spectra signals: recognizing adducts, charge states, isotopes and fragments • EI MS fragmentation patterns: Typical cleavages, rearrangements and eliminations, CID of peptides • Interpretation of IR spectra
