Kompetenzen
(*)Students will be able to understand, explain, and evaluate the basic reactivities of the most common functional groups within organic molecules and predict the outcome of basic reactions of organic compounds. Students will be able to interpret NMR, IR, and MS spectra. Students will be able to draw structures of biomolecules.
Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)More specifically, upon completion of the course they will be able to - understand and explain the underlying mechanisms of nucleophilic substitution reactions, elimination reactions, and electrophilic and nucleophilic addition reactions (k2, k3, k4) - predict, explain, and describe the outcome of reactions belonging to these mechanistic regimes (k3, k6) - understand the differences in reactivities of different functional groups under various reaction conditions (k2, k4, k5) - understand basic NMR and IR spectroscopic experiments and interpretation of 1D and 2D NMR spectra (From sum formula and spectra to structure of molecules (k2,k3,k4) - understand mass-spectrometric (MS) experiments and interpretation of MS spectra (k2,k3,k4) - understand the structure and reactivity of bioorganic molecules (amino acids, peptides and proteins, carbohydrates, nucleotides, nucleosides, and DNA/RNA) (k2, k3, k4)

(*)Underlying concepts and mechanistic details of - nucleophilic substitution reactions - elimination reactions - electrophilic addition reactions - nucleophilic addition reactions - 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy - Mass Spectrometry - Biomolecules
