Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students will be able to understand, apply, explain and review selected topics from the field of polymer characterization.
Skills Knowledge
More specifically, upon completion of the course they will be able to • understand, explain and review the specific needs and requirements of polymer identification, chemical characterization of polymers. (k2, k3, k4, k5) • understand, explain, and review the basics of simple polymer identification, concepts of plastic composition, spectroscopic methods, thermal analysis, chromatographic methods for polymer characterization. (k2, k3, k4, k5) • develop analysis pathways for polymeric materials and composites. (k6) Underlying concepts and details of • polymer identification with basic tools • polymer identification with advanced methods (spectroscopy) • thermal analysis (TGA, DSC, TMA, etc) • mass spectrometric techniques (MALDI, pyrolysis-GC-MS, HPLC-MS) • determination of molecular weights and distributions (SEC, light scattering, colligative properties) • application of combined methods for the determination of industrially relevant properties
