Detailed information
Pre-requisites For safety reasons, at least 6 ECTS verifiably in chemical laboratory courses with individual experimental work or admission to the master's program for polymer chemistry, Chemistry and Chemical Technology or Management in Chemical Technologies
Original study plan Master's programme Polymer Chemistry (discontinuing at 28/2/2027) 2025W
Learning Outcomes
Competences
Students will be able to perform fundamental polymerization experiments with a focus on industrial relevant polymerization techniques.

Skills Knowledge
More specifically, upon completion of the course they will be able to • carry out fundamental industrially relevant polymerization procedures following reported literature procedures on a multi-gram laboratory scale. (k3, k6) • assess and evaluate safety-relevant aspects of polymerization procedures. (k2, k4, k5) • characterize and analyze the afforded polymer products by melting point, spectroscopic means, (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy), thermal analyses (differential scanning calorimetry), and chromatographic techniques (size exclusion chromatography). (k3, k4, k5) • document their laboratory work in a protocol in a scientific writing style. (k4, k5) Underlying concepts and details of • preparation, separation, purification, characterization, and application-related testing of polymers (e.g., polyolefins). • performing reactions that include challenges in terms of handling an automized polymerization equipment at elevated pressures and temperatures.
Criteria for evaluation In the frame of a final exam the content of the course is tested
