Kompetenzen
(*)Students will be able to understand, explain, and evaluate the basic and more advanced reactivity of organic compounds, predict the outcome of reactions of organic molecules, and plan syntheses strategies to access organic target molecules.
Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)More specifically, upon completion of the course they will be able to - understand and explain the underlying mechanisms of transformations of aromatic compounds, rearrangement reactions, pericyclic reactions, radical reactions, and fundamental transition metal-catalyzed process (k2, k3, k4) - predict, explain, and describe the outcome of reactions belonging to these mechanistic regimes (k3, k6) - will understand the differences in reactivities of different functional groups under various reaction conditions (k2, k4, k5) - carry out basic retrosynthetic analyses of small molecule targets and plan syntheses thereof (k4, k5) (*)Underlying concepts and mechanistic details of - aromatic substitution reactions - radical reactions - rearrangements and pericyclic reactions - transition metal catalyzed reactions - retrosynthetic analysis
Beurteilungskriterien (*)Positive Evaluation of the final written exam.
Lehrmethoden (*)A combination of powerpoint (as well as handouts for the students) and specific examples and details written on the blackboard.
