Kompetenzen
(*)This course introduces students to the fundamentals of physical chemistry, focusing on the fundamentals of chemical reaction kinetics, transport and surface processes. Basic knowledge of electrochemistry is also given. Students gain an overview of the most important physical-chemical terms and concepts for describing how reaction rates are measured and represented in rate laws and apply them to chemical problems. The learn the basic concepts of transport phenomena and surface process with respect to chemical applications. Students acquire scientifically sound, fundamental and method-orientated knowledge of physical chemistry, which they can use to understand and explain biochemical processes. In the exercises, calculation techniques on these topics are deepened and in particular the ability to solve application tasks reliably is taught.
Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)More specifically, upon completion of the course they will be able to - know, explain and apply the terms reactive and non-reactive kinetics and surface chemistry correctly and explain and apply concepts of kinetics and surface processes clearly in their own words (k2, k3, k4) - understand and explain how reaction rates are measured and represented in rate laws and apply them to chemical problems. (k2, k3, k4) - describe transport phenomena and know and apply the relevant terms and quantities (k2, k3) - understand and explain the most important quantities in transport process. (k3, k4) - apply the contents of the lecture in practice using calculation examples and to work out solutions independently. (k3, k5) - present their results on the blackboard and discuss them orally. (k3, k6) (*)Underlying concepts and details of - chemical kinetics; how reaction rates are measured and represented in rate laws - applications of chemical kinetics to complex reactions in studying chemical mechanisms - reaction rate theories - processes at surface and interfaces with respect to catalysis - transport phenomena
