Learning Outcomes
Competences
Upon successful completion of the course, students are able to familiarize themselves with the scientific literature (in German or English) in a largely independent manner and to comprehend it. They have prepared their own presentation and delivered it to the group, whereby they have developed a confident presentation style and acquired the ability to present essential content in a structured manner. They can answer scientific questions about their presentation and formulate specific questions about the presentations of others.
Skills Knowledge
Upon completing the course, students learn the following skills. They are able to

  • understand, process and extract key information from English-language scientific literature on soft matter physics (k2);
  • create and effectively communicate scientific presentations based on the extracted data (k5);
  • actively participate in subject-specific scientific discussions, defending their own interpretations and findings with solid reasoning (k4).
Students acquire in-depth knowledge of

  • fundamental principles from specialized areas of soft matter physics;
  • current research topics and methods in this field.
Criteria for evaluation quality and depth of the analysis in the presentation; active and constructive participation in the scientific discussions after the presentations
Methods seminar presentations on selected topics in the area of soft matter physics
