Learning Outcomes
Competences
After successfully completing the course, students are able to explain fundamental concepts from the listed topics related to the analysis of a single variable. They can apply their knowledge to systematically solve more advanced mathematical problems. Furthermore, they are able to use problem-solving techniques for concrete examples.

This exercise is methodically complemented by the lecture Mathematik für Physik I (Analysis einer Veränderlichen).

Skills Knowledge
Upon completing the course, students learn the following skills. They are able to

  • explain mathematical problems and concepts as well as mathematical proofs (k2);
  • independently develop mathematical solutions and proofs of mathematical problems in the field of analysis of a single variable (k3);
  • apply concepts and problem-solving strategies to new and unfamiliar questions, selecting and using appropriate mathematical methods (k3/k4);
  • present their solutions to the group and discuss different approaches (k3/k4).
During the course, students acquire knowledge in analysis of a single variable:

  • sets, relations and functions;
  • numbers;
  • metric spaces;
  • convergence and limit values of sequences and series;
  • continuity;
  • minima and maxima of functions;
  • differentiation of functions of a single real variable;
  • power series and Taylor's theorem;
  • Riemann integral.
