Learning Outcomes
Competences
After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe basic and advanced concepts from the listed areas of electricity and magnetism. They can apply the reasoning and problem-solving methods of physics and transfer them to specific physical systems.

This lecture is methodically complemented by the exercise Grundlagen der Physik II (Elektrizität und Magnetismus).

Skills Knowledge
Upon completing the course, students learn the following skills. They are able to

  • understand and explain basic concepts and phenomena of electricity and magnetism (k1/k2);
  • formulate and interpret physical laws and theories in a precise and analytical manner (k3);
  • transfer the principles of electricity and magnetism to other advanced physical problems (k3).
During the course, students acquire knowledge in the following areas and concepts of electricity and magnetism:

  • field and potential (gravitation, Coulomb);
  • electrostatics, electric currents;
  • magnetic field, magnetostatics;
  • fields of moving charges;
  • electric and magnetic fields in matter, polarization;
  • induction, alternating current circuits, Maxwell's equations;
  • special theory of relativity;
  • Lorentz transformation of electrodynamic quantities.
