Learning Outcomes
Competences
After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe simple problems from the fields of wave physics, optics and atomic and molecular physics, to apply the ways of thinking and solution methods of physics and to transfer these to concrete physical systems.
Skills Knowledge
By attending the course, students learn to

• describe the phenomena of wave propagation mathematically. (K3)

• apply the concepts of ray optics to simple optical instruments. (K3)

• explain the basic concepts of quantum mechanics. (K2)

During the course, students acquire knowledge in the following areas of physics:

• Waves: oscillations and waves, wave equation, longitudinal waves, transversal waves, electromagnetic waves

• Optics: geometrical optics, wave optics, quantum optics, wave-particle-dualism

• Atoms and molecules: Bohr's model, wave functions and orbitals, Periodic Table of the elements
