Learning Outcomes
Competences
The students are able to solve initial, boundary and initial boundary value problems for differential equations using suitable approximation methods.
Skills Knowledge
  • Investigate existence and uniqueness of solutions to differential equations;
  • Check the continuous dependence of the solution on the data;
  • Select and investigate suitable discretisation methods in space and time;
  • Implement the selected solution methods on the computer;
  • Verify the accuracy and plausibility of the numerical solution.
Analysis and numerical methods for ordinary and partial differential equations; single and multi-step methods; finite difference and finite element methods; numerical methods for parabolic and hyperbolic differential equations.
