Principles of fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy and their applications in biology and medicine

Skills Knowledge
The course introduces the students to the timely applications of the fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy in biosciences. Students know and understand these applications (k1. K2). The students will be able to design and suggest appropriate fluorescence experiments for the specific biological problem (k6). Content of the course: Absorption of light and electronic transitions. Principles of Fluorescence. Principles and Selected Applications of Steady-State and Time-Resolved Fluorescence. Confocal and Two-Photon Fluorescence Microscopy. Recent Developments of Fluorescence Probes for Biosiences. Selected Applications of Fluorescence Microscopy in Cell Biology . Fluorescence in Non-viral Gene Therapy. Photodynamic Diagnosis and Therapy. Diagnosis of Prion Diseases by Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy
