Students will be able to understand, apply, and explain the basics of analytical chemistry with particular focus on simple (non-instrumental) analytical methods.

More specifically, upon completion of the course they will be able to - Know, understand, explain and apply the basic principles of analytical chemistry (k1, k2, k3) - Know, understand, explain and apply chemical analytical methods based on gravimetry (k1, k2, k3) - Know, understand, explain and apply chemical analytical methods based on titrations (k1, k2, k3) - Know, understand, explain and apply chemical analytical methods based simple instrumental techniques (k1, k2, k3) - Know, understand, explain and apply simple methods for data analysis in analytical chemistry (k1, k2, k3) Underlying concepts and details of - Basic concepts in analytical chemistry (sampling, pre-treatment, analysis, data evaluation, reporting) - Gravimetric analysis - Titrations (precipitation, acid-base, redox and complexometric) - Titrations with potentiometric end-point determination - Thin layer chromatography - UV-vis spectroscopy for chemical analysis - Simple statistical methods for data evaluation
