Kompetenzen
(*)The courses KV Introduction to Physics for Chemistry, VL Physics for Chemistry, and UE Exercises in Physics for Chemistry form an integrated didactic unit, where the learning outcomes are achieved through combined and concurrent participation in all three courses. The course on Physics for Chemistry aims to equip students with a basic understanding of physics in the field of mechanics and electricity/magnetism, enabling them to • define terms in physics such as angular momentum, charge, field, potential, current and differentiate the from colloquial terms. • explain physical laws such as the conservation of angular momentum or interaction laws of charged particles and apply them to simple problems in mechanics and electricity/magnetism related to aspects encountered in chemistry.
Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)By attending the course, students learn to • explain basic physical phenomena and principles in the field of mechanics as well as in electricity and magnetism. (k2) • apply physical and mathematical concepts to solve given problems in the respective thematical fields. (k3) • analyze and transfer concepts and solution approaches to new and unknown problems and select and apply suitable mathematical formulations. (k3, k4) (*)During the courses, students acquire knowledge in the following areas of physics:

Mechanics: • Angular momentum and conservation of angular momentum • Rotation of rigid bodies • Periodic motions, oscillations, molecular vibrations • Oscillations, waves

Electricity & Magnetism: • Charge, interaction of charges • Electrostatic field, potential • Electric current and resistance • Capacitance and capacitor • Serial and parallel electric circuits • Dipoles (permanent, induced), dipole moment • Lorentz force • Magnetic fields and Lorentz force • Induction and magnetic moment
