This course provides a comprehensive and theory-based exploration of the key concepts and frameworks in entrepreneurship and innovation. It precedes, and aligns with the “IK Innovation and Entrepreneurship” and is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of entrepreneurial processes, corporate entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, and innovation management. It emphasizes the theoretical foundations of entrepreneurship on an individual, organizational, and societal level, and lays the theoretical foundations to understand the development and management of innovation processes within established organizations. By the end of the course, students will have a deep understanding of how entrepreneurship and innovation are conceptualized within academic literature and will be prepared to connect this knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Learning Outcomes

  • LO3: Foundational understanding of entrepreneurship theory, including the entrepreneur’s role, entrepreneurial opportunities, and the creation of ventures.
  • LO4: Knowledge of corporate entrepreneurship, including intrapreneurship and collaboration between corporates and entrepreneurs.
  • LO5: Comprehension of the innovation process and the differences between invention and innovation, as well as how organizations manage innovation in various business environments.
Criteria for evaluation Final Exam (100%): The final exam will assess students' understanding of key theoretical concepts covered in the course, requiring a critical reflection of the course content to answer theoretical questions and applications thereof.
Methods
  • Lectures: Core theoretical content will be delivered through lectures that introduce key concepts, models, and frameworks in entrepreneurship and innovation. Lectures will include discussions of foundational research, including landmark papers in the field.
  • Group Discussions: Structured sessions where students will analyze readings and theoretical models. These discussions aim to deepen students' understanding of complex concepts and encourage peer-to-peer learning.
  • Research Paper Reviews: Students will be assigned key academic papers to review and assess. These reviews will serve as the foundation for understanding the theoretical landscape of the field.
