Criteria for evaluation
  • Group performance: 40%
  • Individual performance: 60%
Methods This course consists of specialist input and project work in groups. Each group selects a real company that has produced a responsible innovation. To identify suitable cases, we use a generic definition of responsible innovation: Responsible innovation (RI) is a label that encompasses novel products, services and processes that aim to do good and avoid harm (Voegtlin and Scherer, 2017). Ensure that sufficient information is available in the public domain about the responsible innovation and the company pursuing it. Analyze the case using six guiding questions:

  1. What is the product, service and process that you have made the focus of this case exercise? Give a concise introduction.
  2. What is new about the products, services and processes that the company offers?
  3. What is economically and socially valuable about the products, services and processes that the company offers?
  4. What is the company pursuing the innovation responsible for? (What issues do the company managers feel responsible for?)
  5. To whom is the company pursuing the innovation accountable? (To whom do the company managers feel responsible?)
  6. Critical evaluation: Does the innovation really fulfill the claim “do good and avoid harm”?

Summarize your answers to these questions in a short video of max. 10 minutes. You are free in the way you present the content. The most important criteria for the assessment are the depth of the case analysis and the effective communication of your findings to your fellow students.
