Learning Outcomes
Competences
The students know the basic concepts and technical terms of general chemistry, analytical chemistry and coordination chemistry and can apply the concepts they have learned to smaller problems. The students are familiar with different types of chemical reactions and know how equilibrium reactions can be influenced.
Skills Knowledge
  • knowing different types of chemical reactions (k1)
  • being able to set up chemical reaction equations and terms for equilibrium constants for various problems (k3)
  • being able to determine oxidation numbers and set up redox equations (k3)
  • being able to interpret the influence of various factors on a reaction (k2)
  • being able to interpret complex compounds and simple catalysis cycles (k3)
  • being able to explain basic concepts of analytical chemistry (k1, k2)
  • Reactions: chemical equations, redox reactions and oxidation numbers, chemical equilibrium, acid/base theories (Brønsted-Lowry incl. buffers, Lewis incl. HSAB principle), complex formation, solubility, coupled equilibria
  • Fundamentals of coordination chemistry
  • Basic examples of analytical chemistry (titrations, Lambert-Beer law, thin-layer chromatography)
