Kompetenzen
(*)Students will learn how to integrate molecular and cellular biology concepts with clinical problems to advance translational medical research. They will develop the ability to understand and apply molecular biology methods to disease-oriented research, particularly in the context of treatment development. The course offers insights from both basic research and clinical practice, guiding medical students interested in laboratory-based medical research or considering a career as clinician scientists.
Fertigkeiten Kenntnisse
(*)
  • Understanding and applying molecular biology concepts to clinical disease processes.
  • Understanding advanced techniques such as gene manipulation, molecular phenotyping, and in vitro/in vivo model systems.
  • Linking clinical manifestations of diseases to molecular mechanisms and pathogenesis.
  • Actively participating in discussions of recent literature and applying insights to ongoing research.
(*)
  • Molecular and cellular biology principles relevant to diseases.
  • Genetic mechanisms and signaling networks that drive disease progression.
  • The cellular life cycle, molecular pathogenesis, and their clinical implications.
  • Advanced methodologies used in molecular medical research (e.g., gene manipulation, molecular phenotyping).
  • In vitro and in vivo model systems for studying diseases and testing treatments.
  • Clinical applications of basic research, with a focus on translational medicine.
Beurteilungskriterien (*)Attendance, active participation in the discussion, final report in the form of a review. The positive assessment is "participated successfully", the negative assessment is "participated without success". (optional) Submission of an essay on research topics to be decided during the course
Lehrmethoden (*)The instructional format will consist of a balanced blend of traditional lectures and interactive literature club-like discussions, fostering a dynamic and participatory learning environment. Additionally, students will be encouraged to take the practical course in the same module to acquire hands-on experience of methods used in research laboratories.
