Kompetenzen |
(*)Students improve their ability to effectively search, interpret, and present relevant scientific literature while also gaining insights into cutting-edge research tools, and innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for immune-related diseases. Students understand and explain cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying innate and adaptive immunity, as well as their roles in health and disease.

Fertigkeiten |
Kenntnisse |
(*)- Choose a subtopic and search for novel scientific information (PubMed, Google Scholar, etc.).
- Critically evaluate research articles and reviews and compile the information into a structured presentation.
- Present the subtopic in a ppt. presentation within 20 minutes.
- Participate in the discussion by asking questions, identifying gaps in current research, and suggesting future directions.
|
(*)The knowledge gained depends on the main topic and its associated subtopics, but will include one or more of the following points:
- Understand and explain different cellular and molecular players of innate or adaptive immunity and their role during homeostasis and disease.
- Analyse pathways of immune cell communication from the nanoscale to the cellular and organismic level.
- Demonstrate novel insights in diagnosis and treatment strategies of allergy, inflammatory, autoimmune diseases or PIDs and cancer.
- Identify hallmarks of immunology research and evaluate cutting-edge technologies and techniques across multiple disciplines.

Beurteilungskriterien |
(*)Attendance, presentation of a subtopic, and participation in the discussion.
|
Lehrmethoden |
(*)The instructor introduces the primary topic, which encompasses hallmarks of immunology research or current challenges across multiple disciplines. Each student is required to prepare a presentation on a specific subtopic within the framework of this main topic (20 minutes of presentation followed by 10 minutes of discussion). This presentation differs from a journal club in that it involves reading, understanding, and implementing the information of multiple new papers or reviews. While the subtopics are typically predefined, students are also welcome to propose their own. An informal online meeting will be held approximately one to two months prior to the course to select subtopics.
