The students are able to formulate topics from a familiar subject in a mathematically and logically concise manner. They understand mathematical formulations in publications of their field and they are able to follow the inherent logical reasoning. Students are acquainted with the most important basic principles of mathematics relevant to Business Informatics and are able to apply this knowledge actively in solving problems.

Introduction to discrete mathematics and algebra. The topics of the lecture are: set theory, propositional and predicate logic; elementary proof techniques, case distinction, proof by induction, proof by contradiction; functions and relations; basic principles of number theory (modular arithmetic); algebraic structures.
