Objectives Students understand multiple linear regression models, are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of these models, and can correctly interpret estimation coefficients from these models. They understand empirical economic papers and can assess the quality of such papers. They can perform simple empirical analyses using statistical software (Stata) and real data. They develop practical skills that are necessary for independent empirical research.
Subject The focus of the intensifying course (IK) is on the application of the material learned in the course. Students apply econometric methods to real-world data and discuss empirical economic papers. The following topics are covered:

  • Estimation of linear regression models and model specifications in Stata
  • Descriptive methods and graphical data analysis in Stata
  • Interpretation of estimation results
  • Discussion of empirical economic papers
Criteria for evaluation
  • Problem sets
  • End-of-term project
Methods Lectures, discussion of problem sets, (presentations)
