Objectives Understanding the basic concepts and most important ideas of the philosophy of science insofar as they are relevant to students of Economics and Social Economics.
Subject The subject of the course are the basic concepts and most important ideas of the philosophy of science insofar as they are relevant to economics and the social economy. These include, among others:

  • Good scientific reasoning
  • Models of scientific explanation
  • The problem of induction
  • The role of rationality assumptions
  • Causality and causal mechanisms
  • Measure
  • Basics of regression analysis
  • Functioning of scientific models
  • Methodological problems of experimentation
  • Methodological problems of randomised trials
Criteria for evaluation Written exam at the end of the course.
