Objectives The aim of the course is to provide fundamental theoretical knowledge of women's and gender studies and an understanding of the significance of "gender" as a social category.
Subject The course is an introduction to women's and gender studies (Gender Studies). It deals with theories of women's and gender studies, introduces central concepts and their origins, and addresses the questions and fields of application of the discipline. How have conceptions of "gender" and "gender relations" changed historically? What effects does "gender" have on social, political, or economic structures? To what extent can the category of "gender" be seen as a signpost within social hierarchy and power systems? These questions are to be examined in their historical, political, and social scientific dimensions.

Methods The course combines elements of lecture and exercise, meaning that in addition to introductory lectures, group discussions and exercises will also take place.
