Ziele |
(*)The goal of this course is to enable students to interpret molecular spectra of organic molecules. Starting with simple molecules the interpretation of NMR, IR and MS spectra with respect to structure and purity of the samples is taught. The course alternates between lecture-type presentations, homework assignments and presentation of the assignment results on the blackboard with critical discussion by peers and the instructor. With increasing complexity of the assignments the students will be guided from spectrum interpretation to structure elucidation. The main emphasis of the course is on the evaluation of 1H and 13C NMR spectra and the assignment practice of 1D and 2D NMR spectra using additional information from other spectroscopic techniques as well as synthetic history and context.
