Detailed information |
Original study plan |
Master's programme Mechanical Engineering 2023W |
Objectives |
After successfully engaging with the topics of this course, students will be able to
- solve basic fluid dynamics and heat transfer problems using the Finite Volume Method,
- generate numerical meshes for CFD problems,
- prescribe adequate boundary conditions,
- understand the differences between common turbulence models,
- perform post-processing of CFD simulations,
- independently work on a small CFD-project.
The level of mathematical modeling and analysis of the mentioned topics is comparable to the level of the textbook: Versteeg, Malalasekera: An Introduction to Computational Fluid Mechanics, Pearson, 2007
|
Subject |
- fundamentals of numerical simulation of fluid flows using the Finite Volume method (Computational Fluid Dynamics - CFD)
- working with the software-package FLUENT/ICEM
- generation of tetrahedral- and hexahedral-meshes
- practising the use of FLUENT/ICEM by means of standardised examples
- elaboration on an individual project
|
Criteria for evaluation |
Homework, evaluation of a final project
|
Methods |
Guided tutorial examples, independent project
|
Language |
German; if requested: English |
