Lehrinhalte |
(*)The lecture starts with „Fundamentals“, where mass spectrometry relevant general information and terms are discussed briefly. The major lecture topics are:
1. Ion Sources. Commercially available ion source like Electron Ionization, Chemical Ionization, Electrospray Ionization, Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization, Atmospheric Pressure Photoionization, Desorption Electrospray Ionization, Direct Analysis in Real Time, Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization and Inorganic Mass Spectrometry Ion Sources are presented.
2. Mass Analyzers. This chapter includes Quadrupole Instruments, Ion-Traps (3D/2D), TOF, Sector Instruments, FT-ICR and Orbitrap. The working principles are explained with the focus on useful practical decision-making what instrument can be used for particular tasks.
3. Tandem Mass Spectrometry. The most important tandem MS strategies are given, highlighting possible mass analyzer combinations which are best suited for certain fields of application.
4. Ion Mobility Spectrometry - Mass Spectrometry is a very recent field with fast growing applications and technical improvements. Established methods like DTIMS, TWIMS, FAIMS/DMS are presented together with latest developments, e.g. TIMS.
