Objectives |
Students know and understand the basics of power electronic components and circuits. They are able to calculate their operating behaviour and thus define their possible uses and limits in terms of applicability. They also know and understand key aspects of cooling semiconductor components and selected rectifier circuits and converter topologies. They can therefore
- dimension and numerically simulate control and protection circuits for power semiconductor components,
- set up and analytically calculate thermal networks to determine heat generation in semiconductor components,
- dimension phase-controlled AC rectifiers, uncontrolled rectifiers and grid-connected converters, calculate their signal curves analytically and simulate them numerically.
The level of treatment of the topics mentioned corresponds approximately to that of the relevant chapters in the textbooks Zach, Franz: Leistungselektronik, 5. Auflage, Springer Verlag (2015) & Trzynadlowski, Andrzej M. (Ed.): Power Electronic Converters and Systems, 1st ed., IET, (2016).
