Original study plan Master's programme Mechanical Engineering 2023W
Objectives Teaching of the fundamentals of selected aspects and applications of the Finite-Element Method (FEM)
Subject
  • Aspects of modelling, overview of basic and advanced concepts, interpretation and validation of results.
  • Effective treatment of non-linear problems by finite-element approaches.
  • Geometry adjustment and meshing of complex parts and assemblies (imported from CAD).
  • Contact and friction, roughness transfer.
  • Forming technology (rolling, forging, deep-drawing, roller levelling).
  • Modal analysis of complex parts and assemblies (machine-dynamics, torsional vibrations).
  • Thermodynamics of irreversible processes (heat transfer, parameter-identification problems).
Criteria for evaluation written examination and/or oral examination
Methods Teaching of the theoretical basis with a script Demonstration of underlying modelling concepts by utilizing commercial FEM-software (e.g. Abaqus).
