Objectives Exercise on the most important concepts of optics and wave phenomena. Introduction to the scientific approach and methods of solving problems in physics. Application of these methods to specific physical systems.
Subject Maxwell's equations, wave equation, mechanical and electromagnetic waves, refractive index and dispersion; reflection, transmission and refraction; polarization and anisotropic materials; Fresnel's equations; geometrical optics; optical instruments; interference and coherence; wave optics; diffraction.
Criteria for evaluation (1) number of successfully solved exercises and (2) quality of the presentation and participation in the exercise class.
Methods Autonomous solution of problems (individually or in small groups) and presentation of these solutions in the class.
