Objectives Students are familiar with data models for representing and managing various types of company-relevant data (relational, semi-structured, documents) and are able to use database management systems to store and retrieve data. They are able to extract and merge internal and external company data from various sources. Students are familiar with key methods and concepts of knowledge acquisition and knowledge representation, as well as knowledge management. They are able to represent knowledge in declarative form and use knowledge-based systems.

  • Conceptual data models: UML/entity relationship diagrams
  • Logical data models: Relational, semi-structured (XML), graph-oriented (RDF)
  • Query languages: SQL, XQuery, Sparql
  • Database management systems: Relational, object-oriented, graph stores, document stores
  • Data modeling and data integration
  • Implicit knowledge, methods and concepts of knowledge acquisition and

representation: ontologies, business rules, knowledge graphs

  • Knowledge-based systems, knowledge management in organizations
